How to Make Soccer Socks Jump ropes
63
In the soccer league my kids are in, every season they get a new pair of soccer socks in a color matching their new team. We came up with a great idea for soccer socks after soccer season is over - weave jumpropes.
Supplies:
- 4-6 pairs of soccer socks
- Scissors
Instructions
- Start at the knee end of each sock and cut horizontally into 3/4 inch strips repeating down the sock until you reach the foot section.
- Repeat with all of the socks.
3. Determine the color pattern you would like for your jump rope.
4. Place the end of the strip over your index finger.
5. Then twist the strip.
6. Continue by placing the strip over your middle finger.
7. Twist again.
8. Place over your ring finger.
9. Twist the strip.
10. Put the end of the strip on your pinky.
7. Using a strip that is the next color of your pattern, repeat steps 4-6 over the top of the first strip.
8. Now take the bottom strip and pull it off of the top of each finger.
9. Add a new strip and repeat steps 4-8.
10. Continue this pattern until your jumprope is the perfect size.
Questions
- What if you have to stop before finishing? Put a pen or pencil through the holes your fingers were in to save for later.
- What if you don't have enough strips? You can stretch your jumprope by pulling firmly. If it's still too short, you may need to wait until next soccer season or ask a friend if you can have their old soccer socks.
- How old should a child be to make this craft? You may have to help make the strips since you need to use sharp scissors. However, I think 8 or 9 is probably a good age for the weaving part. Younger children can help by arranging the strips in a pattern.
- What can you do with the foot part of the socks? They make the very best dust gloves that are perfect for little helpers.
